{"id":230,"date":"2024-01-23T08:58:08","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T13:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cleanhydrodamlies.com\/?page_id=230"},"modified":"2025-05-29T15:31:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T19:31:00","slug":"our-work","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hydrodamtruth.org\/?page_id=230","title":{"rendered":"Our Work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Arctic Region: Tracking Temperature Data, Graphin<\/strong><strong>g Changes, Prior to and After Mega Reservoir Dam Installations<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the persistance of Stephen Kasprzak, our long time senior researcher, and his assistant Roger Wheeler, we\u2019ve amped up the research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now with the expertise and assistance of our newest team member PhD professor of mathematics, Lee Jones our graph plottings are pointing to some significant truths about the hydroeectric power stations in the Arctic regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Message<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Megadams pose a serious threat to our climate by creating ocean temperature increases, reducing the influx of essential nutrients to oceans, emitting greenhouse gases like C02, water vapor and methane, and cause drastic environmental and cultural impacts upon indigenous communities. \u201cGREEN\u201d mega-dams are a MYTH, and \u201cRenewable\u201d hydro-power is a blatant distortion of the truth. Hydro-power is not a solution to the climate crisis and should not be considered an essential part of the<br>Clean Energy Transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strategy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Our overarching strategy is to to broadcast awareness of the serious climate change effects being created by mega-dams, especially in the arctic and sub-arctic regions of North America. This includes education and advocacy to stop the green-washing of mega-dams, while promoting green energy and climate justice. Host monthly<br>networking &amp; strategy meetings.<br><strong>EDUCATION<\/strong>: Continue to invite and host guest speakers at our monthly online meetings, for discussion and debate about the issues affecting the ecology of rivers and their impact by mega-<br>dams, as well as the Clean Energy Transition. Publish a quarterly Resources List of online resources and events. Organize and update the expanding database of research articles and published papers on this topic contained in the Zotero Datatbase at the Univ. of Manitoba<br><strong>EVENTS<\/strong>: Continue to monitor and participate in statewide and regional events, workshops and seminars, such as Maine Climate Council, water resources meetings, ClimateWork Maine, ISO- NE, Fix-The-Grid, Raab Roundtable, Fisherman&#8217;s forums, Coastal Resiliency Conferences, and<br>others.<br><strong>MEDIA<\/strong>: Increase our media presence and exposure through LTEs (Letters to the Editor), interviews, building relations with local and statewide media contacts, and making presentations to groups about the how mega-dams contribute to climate change.<br><strong>ACTION &amp; ADVOCACY<\/strong>: participate in and formulate public actions designed to build awareness, change public policy and stimulate the desire for changes to address the increasingly severe effects of climate warming being created by mega-dams.
